Television first appeared as a mechanical apparatus, that consisted of a spinning disk and photo-electric vacum tubes.
The video "signal" was taken from a standard radio receiver and the audio "signal" was taken from a separate radio receiver.
The video quality was very poor due to the mechanical process involved.
